President Joni Garrelts

President Garrelts is the first person and first woman to serve as the President of the new tribal Council. She is based out of Oregon, and strives to help bring all Native American Descendants together under one tribe: the Sakochee Tribe.

The President has long been aware of the stories passed down through her family about their Cherokee ancestry. President Garrelts feels a deep-seated desire to learn and embrace this part of her identity. She is committed to exploring and understanding the rich history and traditions of the Cherokee people and all mixed-bloods, both for her own personal growth and to pass something meaningful along to her daughters and grandchildren.

For President Garrelts, this journey is about honoring her ancestors and ensuring that their legacy lives on through knowledge, understanding, and the stories she can share with future generations.
