Alexander Ziwahatan, 34, is the current Chief of the Sakochee Tribe. They succeeded their father to the position in 2016. Chief Ziwahatan was born and raised in Eugene, Oregon, where they continue to live to this day.
The Chief is descended from multiple tribes: Yankton Sioux, Cherokee, Piscataway, Pamunkey, Powhatan, Shawnee, Nanticoke, and Lenape. Further, Chief Ziwahatan is a direct descendant of great chiefs Opechancanough, Powhatan, Totopotomoi, Wahanganoche, and Kittamaquund.
On December 21, 2020, Chief Ziwahatan, 30, married Joshua Chase, 54. Due to Covid, they were unable to have a dream wedding and instead were married at their home by a Justice of the Peace. Although, in 2024 the couple finally had their dream wedding in a lakeside ceremony and reception; officiated by the Mayor.
