The government of the Sakochee Tribe is run by the Council.
The position of Chief is a hereditary position among the descendants of Chief Alexander Ziwahatan, who has been our leader since 2016 when his father stepped down.
The Council is led by the President, and directly under are three other elected positions:
- President: Joni Garrelts
- Vice President: Larry Warren
- Secretary of Enrollment: Rickey Cooke
- Secretary of Culture: Robert Hughes Whisler III
We are open to all applicants for the positions. As more people become involved, more seats will become available as the Council expands. Our goal is to have a council of 5 people in each state, with all being overseen by a Grand Council.
